ALL THAT REMAINS (THE RIGHT OF RETURN)
( حق العودة ) كي لا  ننسى

16mm film installation (in progress)

ALL THAT REMAINS is a 16mm film examining the locations of
demolished Palestinian villages that have been turned into Israeli
national parks and nature reserves. Structured around kaleidoscopic
chapters, the work explores Zionist afforestation projects, namely
the planting of pine and eucalyptus forests atop these villages as
instruments of concealment, camouflaging evidence of displacement and destruction.

The research includes a book in progress documenting the villages and their remains,
along with an index of indigenous plants (and their medicinal and traditional uses)
that continue to grow in these areas. These plants will be used to create a plant-based
developer for the final 16mm film.

The analog and ecological methods used in the film are not only
formal choices but acts of resistance, reclaiming the agency
of the land within the image-making process.

It also poses a central question: what might an image of ‘return’ look like?
